How you start is not how you finish, and former NASA Rocket Scientist and Entrepreneur, Aisha Bowe proves just that. Her rise through challenges in the classroom and overcoming naysayers while in community college lead her to discover a love of aerospace. As the first Black woman confirmed to fly with Blue Origin on New Shepard, Bowe is expected to be the sixth Black woman to cross the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space.
When asked about how to engage students in STEM subjects and encourage their interest, Bowe challenges us to step away from using the word STEM and focus on seeing it as employable skills, workforce development, and to focus on the joy and excitement of these disciplines. By taking students to the current environments where STEM or employable skills are happening, they encourage learning by being inspired. Bowe delivered a session at the 2024 International Leadership Summit on "Tech Is Everything and Everywhere: The Impact of AI on Communities, Businesses, & Organizations."
